The Container Handler duties at FedEx are centred on upholding the efficient transportation of freight amongst other responsibilities. These responsibilities require the Container Handler to handle the movement of cargo with utmost care and accuracy while adhering to safety protocols. Furthermore, the Container Handler is also responsible for meeting productivity targets, complying with company regulations, and creating a safe workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

• Loading/Unloading Freight: Take advantage of modern loading and unloading technology and equipment to streamline the process and prevent undue strain and injuries to personnel.
• Cargo Handling: Safety of the cargo during handling and transportation can be ensured by following the requisite procedures for stacking, arranging and securing it in accordance with the company's regulations.
• Documentation: Verify the correctness of all the shipping papers, including bills of lading, to guarantee that all the items have been accounted for.
• Safety Compliance: The use of appropriate personal protective gear (PPE) is critical to adhere to safety procedures and guidelines and establish a secure working environment.
• Equipment Operation: Move materials safely from one location to another by operating material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks and forklifts.
• Collaboration: Promote synergy and seamless teamwork among drivers, management, and other stakeholders to facilitate efficient dock operations.
• Problem Solving: To ensure a smooth and efficient loading and unloading experience, it is crucial to report any challenges or impasses that may occur during the process to the relevant personnel.
• Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and hazard-free dock area where employees can work safely and efficiently.

Qualifications:

• Experience: While past involvement in a dock or warehouse situation is desirable, it is not compulsory.
• Physical Requirements: The applicant must possess physical aptitude that enables them to move heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds regularly and to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Skills: Manifests great care and accuracy, commendable communication skills, and the knack for thriving in a dynamic work atmosphere.
• Licenses/Certifications: While it's a plus to have forklift certification, it can be provided by the company if necessary.
• Work Schedule: The work schedule is designed to allow for flexibility in hours worked, which may include shifts during nighttime, weekends, or holidays as required.

• Work Environment: Working in differing weather conditions and temperatures is part and parcel of this job, as the dock area is frequently exposed to the elements.
